We inherited our 'previously owned' float and sleigh from another Club 5 years ago and it had already seen many years of fund raising then. Since that time it has been a labour of love, with a new sound system installed, new lights and heavy mechanical repairs. Our Club members and supporters and devoted hours of their skills to bring the float to its current magnificent state. Planning for the float runs starts in the summer, when all the routes are planned and then rehearsed in daylight to check for hazzards. Teams of drivers, santas and elves are assembled and allocated to times and routes. The Float is out on 16 occassions this December, visiting over 100 streets and draws its teams from Woodcote Scouts, Sparta Explorers, 95th, 95th Reading Scouts and many other groups. There is a large spread sheet controlling all of this! Sainsbury's and Aldi allow us to park our float in or close to their stores. Sansome & George start off one of the runs with mince pies. Everyone involved loves the excitement created inside and outside houses when we arrive.
Huge thanks to all our supporters in December 2019. Santa, the Sleigh and his Elves raised £6,995, which will distributed to 12 local charities, other national and international charities. They are having a well earned rest.
